Personal training at Eastgate is one-on-one coaching with Greg Cooper, the clinic’s performance coach. Every session is planned for you: your history, your current fitness, anything your physiotherapist has flagged, and what you actually want to be able to do. It starts with a free introductory consultation, so you can meet Greg and decide whether it is the right fit before committing. Personal training is a fitness service, not physiotherapy, and is paid for directly rather than through health benefits.

Personal training is coached exercise for general strength, fitness and movement, for people who are cleared to train. It is different from exercise therapy, which a physiotherapist prescribes to treat a diagnosed problem. Many people move from one to the other: physiotherapy while something is healing, then training to keep building once it has.
The first full session is a movement and fitness assessment — how you squat, hinge, push, pull and carry, where you are limited, and a few baseline measures. From that Greg writes a program and coaches you through it, adjusting week to week based on how you respond.

Training sits alongside the clinic’s physiotherapy services rather than replacing them. The links below cover the services people most often combine with coaching, and how each is paid for.
Assessment and treatment for pain and injury. If you are hurt or in pain, this comes first; training follows once you are cleared. Read more about physiotherapy →
Staged return-to-sport rehabilitation with clear criteria. Greg coaches the strength and conditioning that gets you through each stage. Read more about sports physiotherapy →
For a specific target — a competition, a return to sport, a demanding job — with mindset and preparation built in. Read more about performance coaching →
Personal training is paid directly. Sessions are 45 or 60 minutes; the introductory consultation is free. Read more about self-pay fees →
If you are currently in pain or injured, a physiotherapy assessment comes first. Call the clinic and we will point you to the right person.
Every program is written for one person. The steps below are how Greg takes you from a first conversation to training you can keep up on your own, with progress measured against your own starting point rather than a generic standard.
Twenty to thirty minutes with Greg about your goals, your training and injury history, and what a realistic plan looks like. No workout and no obligation.
How you squat, hinge, push, pull and carry, where you are limited, and a few baseline measures to track against later.
Built from the assessment and your schedule, not a template. It changes as you do.
Forty-five or sixty minutes one-on-one, with technique coached in every session so you are confident doing the work.
A short written home program if you want one, so the sessions are not the only training you do.
Baseline measures are repeated every few weeks so you can see what has changed rather than guess.
If you are also being treated here, Greg and your physiotherapist share notes with your permission so the two plans pull in the same direction.
Training inside Eastgate means the physiotherapy team is a few steps away. If something flares up mid-program, it is looked at properly rather than trained through. It also means a quieter, more private setting than a commercial gym, one-on-one attention for the whole session, and a coach who understands what people are working back from. Eastgate has served Sherwood Park for more than 35 years.
A program you understand and can follow, technique you are confident in, strength and fitness that build week on week, and a clear picture of your progress. Just as important, the habits to keep training once the coached block ends.
Personal training is a fitness service and is paid for directly. It is not billed to extended health plans, WCB or motor vehicle (Section B) claims, which cover physiotherapy, massage and acupuncture at the clinic but not coaching.

Sessions are 45 or 60 minutes. Ask the front desk for current rates; the introductory consultation is free.

Extended health plans, WCB and Section B do not cover personal training. Your physiotherapy stays covered as usual.

Some health or wellness spending accounts accept personal training receipts. Check your plan; itemised receipts are provided.

Training is booked and billed separately from your physiotherapy visits, even on the same day.
Not sure what your plan allows? The front desk can explain how training is billed alongside your physiotherapy. See our funding pages for the health services that are covered.
The aim is not to keep you dependent on a coach. Greg sets goals with you at the start, measures progress against them, and builds toward you training confidently on your own or with lighter check-ins. Whether you are coming off rehabilitation, returning to exercise after years away, or preparing for a season, the program is built around what you want to get back to.

Greg Cooper is Eastgate’s performance coach and personal trainer, a second-degree black belt in judo and the lead instructor at Kodokwai Judo Club. He works with people finishing physiotherapy, adults returning to exercise, and athletes building strength for their season. His coaching draws on judo’s founding principles of maximum efficiency and mutual welfare: do the work that matters, do it well, and leave better off. Personal training is a fitness service and is not covered by health benefits.
No. Personal training is a fitness service, not a regulated health service, so it is paid for directly. Physiotherapy, massage and acupuncture at the clinic keep their usual coverage.
No. Anyone can book. Many people come to Greg after finishing rehabilitation, but you can start with a free introductory consultation whether or not you have seen a physiotherapist here.
Yes. A large part of one-on-one coaching is teaching the basic movements properly and building confidence with them. The program starts wherever you are.
Twenty to thirty minutes with Greg: what you want to achieve, your training and injury history, what a realistic plan looks like and what it costs. No workout, no obligation.
For most people starting out, two coached sessions a week with one or two short home workouts between them is sustainable. Greg suggests a schedule at the consultation rather than selling a fixed package.
Sessions are 45 or 60 minutes and self-pay; ask the front desk for current rates. There is no charge for the introductory consultation.
Some health spending accounts and wellness accounts accept personal training receipts; extended health plans generally do not. Itemised receipts are provided so you can check with your plan.
Often, yes. The physiotherapist sets the limits and Greg works inside them. With your permission the two share notes so the training supports the rehabilitation.

Satish has helped me with numerous issues including a needle-stick injury, a back issue and sciatica. He is an expert in his field who is willing to share his knowledge. His treatments are effective, safe and he has been able to restore my movement every time I have been under his care. I highly recommend Satish for your physiotherapy needs.

I had an excellent experience at East Gate Physiotherapy in Sherwood Park. Satish was incredibly knowledgeable, professional, and genuinely caring. He took the time to understand the source of my intense pain and explained everything clearly while providing effective, targeted treatment. I noticed meaningful pain relief and improvement much faster than I expected. I truly felt listened to and supported throughout the entire process. I highly recommend Satish and the team at East Gate Physiotherapy to anyone dealing with pain or injury.

I’m writing this review as the daughter of a patient, and I can’t say enough good things about Satish at East Gate Physiotherapy in Sherwood Park. My mom had been in severe pain for weeks and wasn’t able to sleep or even walk properly. Satish took so much time with her, showed incredible patience and compassion, and treated her with acupuncture that brought real relief. Seeing my mom finally get some rest and regain mobility was such a relief for our family. We’re incredibly grateful for the care, knowledge, and genuine kindness he showed. I would highly recommend Satish to anyone looking for thoughtful, effective treatment. He is not extremely thorough, knowledgeable and caring.
